What Is Botox?
Botox is a neuromodulator—a purified form of botulinum toxin—that works by temporarily relaxing facial muscles that cause dynamic wrinkles. These are the lines that appear when you smile, frown, or squint.By relaxing the underlying muscles, Botox smooths the surface of your skin, creating a softer, more refreshed appearance.
Common Treatment Areas for Botox:
- Forehead lines
- Crow’s feet (around the eyes)
- Frown lines (“11” lines between the brows)
- Bunny lines (across the nose)
- Jawline slimming (masseter reduction)
Botox treatments are quick—typically under 15 minutes—and results appear within a few days, lasting three to four months on average.
What Are Dermal Fillers?
While Botox relaxes muscles, dermal fillers add volume. Most modern fillers, such as Juvéderm® or Restylane®, use hyaluronic acid, a naturally occurring substance in your skin that helps maintain hydration and elasticity.Fillers can smooth deeper lines, plump lips, enhance cheekbones, and even contour the jawline. They’re often used to restore youthful fullness that naturally diminishes over time.
Common Treatment Areas for Fillers:
- Cheeks and midface
- Lips
- Nasolabial folds (smile lines)
- Marionette lines (corners of the mouth)
- Chin and jawline
- Under-eye hollows
Filler results are visible immediately and typically last 6 to 18 months, depending on the product and area treated.
